Business Intelligence – Retail Merchandising

Deliver unique insights from sales, market, and shelf data; find out what’s changed from one period to another – to identify the winners and losers and any trends.

Consumer packaged goods companies typically want to look at schematic diagrams and associated data at different points prior to, during, and after a category reset – to analyze factors like share, points of distribution, days of supply, cubic, capacity, etc. Digitalrep takes the idea quite a bit farther – comparing the just completed reset with the previous period’s schematics. Imagine the ability to understand how DOS, POD, and capacity have changed from one period to the next, and at an aggregated level, for every item… View by category, sub-category, segment, brand, manufacturer, package type, etc.

For a leading U.S. beverage manufacturer, its entire merchandising review process was done manually at one time, utilizing scripts and electronic worksheets for data aggregation, severely taxing its dedicated team – requiring as many as 13 weeks, 2 times per year, for the same process. For every version, cycle, and year, the process was repeated over and over. Today, required tasks are even more complex and much more frequent. The workflow at one time was entirely serial in nature, so any change in assortment or buyer preference, or any human error required the review process to be repeated from the beginning. Nowadays, Planomart delivers highly detailed reports from larger and larger datasets, depending on what sort of detail the team is seeking.

Digitalrep’s Planomart software has solved many challenges for the company in the past 10 years plus. With Planomart, the beverage vendor delivers reports using space to sales indices that uncover powerful insights that drive merchandising strategy. Planomart’s powerful auditing tools deliver instant detail on compliance with merchandising plans, and scorecards uncover what changed between different versions of planograms, multiple cycles (Spring and Fall), and year over year.

Planomart has elegantly addressed efficiency challenges related the import of planograms into the data warehouse repository. While prior to the implementation of Planomart, all the current and historic data couldn’t be analyzed effectively, Digitalrep’s software now manages more than 3 years of historic data, and is updated daily with new point-of sales figures. Digitalrep’s combination of highly skilled shelf space experts and great software delivers results that were at one time unattainable.

Pricing Collection, Aggregation, and Reporting

Collect, Aggregate, and Report distributor pricing for beer, wine, and spirits

Beer, wine, and spirits are sold in the U.S. through multi-level distribution – by law. And it’s challenging to manage the ongoing pricing collection task. There are hundreds of distributors scattered across the country; they sell and deliver to your favorite retailer. Generally, grocers and other retailers look to the manufacturers to assist their distributors in collecting and reporting their pricing. Digitalrep’s PricingGateway.com is a public-facing web application that enables distributors to easily and efficiently enter forward-looking pricing for their customers.

Real World

Suppliers struggled to assist their distributors, numbering more than 1,000, with monthly pricing submittals via ExcelTM worksheets. There was little uniformity of data, the frequency of updates was insufficient, and the task of “rolling up” spreadsheets from so many businesses across the country was daunting.

Digitalrep built PricingGateway.com, a public-facing web application that enables distributors to login, see the items authorized for purchase, and then submit their pricing efficiently. The system aggregates pricing by supplier, and securely transmits pricing on all items for each location and every distributor – in the desired format.

The result is significantly improved accuracy and timeliness for suppliers and fewer pricing discrepancies when distributors deliver – which was the most significant issue for the supply chain.
